Ron the Greek Out of Classic

Ron the Greek (h, 6, Full Mandate), whose win over Palace Malice (Curlin) and Flat Out (Flatter) in the GI Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park Sept. 28 stamped him as a major player in Saturday's GI Breeders' Cup Classic, will miss the $5-million centerpiece due to a quarter crack that subsequently abscessed, according to a variety of published reports. The Florida-bred, one of two in the race for the Bill Mott barn, sported decent form over the Classic course and distance, having annexed the 2012 running of the GI Santa Anita H.
