Reverting to a mile after a gallant effort when a close-up fifth in the G1 Prix de Diane, George Strawbridge's TDN Rising Star With You (GB) (Dansili {GB}) justified 8-5 favouritism with authority in Sunday's G1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville. Perfectly placed from the outset by Aurelien Lemaitre, the homebred tracked the pace-setting Crown Walk (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in second with stamina assured over this trip. Gaining the edge over that rival approaching the furlong pole, the bay drew away to score by three lengths from Godolphin's duo of Crown Walk and Rosa Imperial (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) who were separated by a head. “She's top-class and has never run a bad race in her life,” trainer Freddy Head commented. “She can adapt to whatever track, but I was worried about the ground when the rain fell today. Obviously that was not a problem and while I have to discuss it with the owner, she could come back here for the [Aug. 12 G1 Prix Jacques le] Marois.”
With You, who earned Rising Star status when off the mark by six lengths over this trip on debut on testing ground at Saint-Cloud in September, had made light of her first serious test in the G3 Prix des Reservoirs also at that distance on a similarly holding surface on the round course here in October. When she reappeared in ParisLongchamp's G1 Prix Saint-Alary over a mile and a quarter May 27, she had the formidable Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) to contend with and came out second best for the first time by only a short head before the extra half furlong of the June 17 Chantilly Classic proved perhaps a touch too far. Beaten just a neck, two noses and a head in a blanket there as Laurens prevailed again, With You had the advantage of stamina over these mainly miling specialists and with that in mind Lemaitre had a strangehold on the race from the first few yards. Only the G3 Prix Chloe winner Crown Walk offered any concern at any stage, especially as that leader was enjoying what looked like an advantageous strip of ground on the stand's rail, but in the end class prevailed as well as staying power.
The runner-up's trainer Henri-Alex Pantall said, “She ran a lovely race and is obviously better at a mile, even though she won last time over nine. She also likes soft ground and is very courageous, so I have to be proud.” Godolphin's Lisa-Jane Graffard added, “Both the Godolphin runners have performed very well–there are no excuses. This was Crown Walk's best run and confirms that she is best over a mile. She is a very progressive filly and we hope she can go on and win a group 1. Rosa Imperial possibly lacked a bit of stamina towards the end and we will discuss with Andre [Fabre] what trip to run her over next time.”
With You is now the second top-level winner for the G3 Prix de Flore scorer In Clover (GB) (Inchinor {GB}) after her Prix de l'Opera-winning full-sister We Are (Ire). Also responsible for the listed-winning pair Dream Clover (GB) and Incahoots (GB) by Oasis Dream (GB), the dam is a daughter of the G3 Prix de Royaumont scorer Bellarida (Fr) (Bellypha {Ire}) who also produced the listed scorer and G3 Prix de la Nonette runner-up Bayourida (Slew O'Gold) and the fellow listed-winning Bellona (Ire) (Bering {GB}). The latter later threw Es Que (GB) from a mating with In Clover's sire Inchinor and she in turn boasts four black-type winners headed by the G1 Hong Kong Vase scorer Dominant (Ire) (Cacique {Ire}) and the G2 Lennox S.-winning first-season sire Es Que Love (Ire) (Clodovil {Ire}). In Clover also has an as-yet unnamed yearling full-brother to With You and a 2018 colt by Dubawi (Ire).
