A year after securing an Eclipse Award as the champion 3-year-old filly, Besilu Stable’s Royal Delta (Empire Maker–Delta Princess, by A.P. Indy) was recognized Saturday evening for her exploits as an older female, as she easily outdistanced Groupie Doll (Bowman’s Band) to win yet another Eclipse. Despite a fruitless trip to Dubai for the G1 Dubai World Cup in March, she returned stateside none the worse for wear to win four of her subsequent five trips to the post, including a 9 1/2-length thrashing of the field in the GI Beldame S. ahead of a successful title defense in the GI Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic. Royal Delta remains in training in 2013, with recovery mission in the desert in the offing.
