Rudy R. ‘Reloads’ for Frizette
Trainer Rudy Rodriguez, fresh off a dynamite Super Saturday last weekend at Belmont Park, including a pair of graded stakes victories, will be well-represented by 2-1 morning-line favorite Condo Commando (Tiz Wonderful) in today’s “Win and You’re In” GI Frizette S. at Belmont Park.
Co-owner Michael Dubb and company had to be holding their collective breath while watching the daughter of MGSW Yearly Report (General Meeting) romp by 12 lengths at odds of 12-1 in a $75,000 maiden claimer in her Saratoga bow Aug. 3. After dodging a bullet at the claim box in that one, the dark bay, a $72,000 KEESEP yearling graduate, followed with another devastating performance with a 13 1/4-length tour-de-force over By the Moon (Indian Charlie) in a sloppy renewal of the seven-furlong GI Spinaway S. Aug. 31.
Stonestreet Stables’ unbeaten “TDN Rising Star” Cavorting (Bernardini), a double-digit front-running debut winner at Belmont July 3, changed up tactics by rallying from off the pace to remain unbeaten in Saratoga’s GII Adirondack S. Aug. 10. The runner-up that day Angela Renee (Bernardini) captured last weekend’s GI Chandelier S. in her two-turn debut at Santa Anita Sept. 27.
“[Angela Renee’s win] certainly flatters our form,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said of the $360,000 KEENOV weanling purchase. “Cavorting has been working very well, and all systems are go. She’s a lovely filly.”
Wonder Gal (Tiz Wonderful), tabbed as a “TDN Rising Star” after posting a runaway debut win against New York-breds in the Lynbrook S. July 6, was freshened after a somewhat troubled trip in the Adirondack. The Treadway Racing Stable colorbearer reported home third, beaten four lengths that day.
“It makes you wonder how she would have run with a clean trip,” trainer Leah Gyarmati said. “Those are two nice fillies that beat us, but it would have been nice to have clear sailing and see how close we get. She’s such a big filly; she needs that room, and you can’t really stop her and start her again.”
Feathered (Indian Charlie), a narrow debut second at Saratoga Aug. 3, blew the doors off after allowed to set an easy pace going seven furlongs at the Spa Aug. 31.
