A perfect five-for-five over the Gulfstream main track, Three Rules (Gone Astray) looks to make amends for the only blemish to his record, a sixth in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita Nov. 5, in his return home to Hallandale for Saturday's GII Swale S. The Shade Tree Thoroughbreds, Tom Fitzgerald and Geoff Roy homebred captured his first five starts, four of which were stakes, by a combined 31 lengths at distances ranging from 5 1/2 furlongs to 1 1/16 miles.
“He has matured so much,” trainer Jose Pinchin said. “He's grown a little bit. He put on some weight. Everything's good. I'm looking forward to enjoy watching him race again.”
A dominant six-length debut winner sprinting at Saratoga Aug. 20, Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence's Favorable Outcome (Flatter) checked in third behind stablemate Practical Joke (Into Mischief) in the GI Champagne S. Oct. 8. The Chad Brown pupil was last seen fading to 12th in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Nov. 4, but looks poised to rebound in this return to the dirt and cut back to a sprint distance.
Calumet Farm's Sonic Mule (Distorted Humor) looks to make it four in a row here for the always dangerous Todd Pletcher barn. Victorious in a sloppy renewal of the six-panel Buffalo Man S. at Gulfstream Dec. 10, the bay stretched his speed to a mile with a front running victory in Hallandale's Mucho Macho Man S. Jan 7.
