Rupee Sore After Newmarket Defeat
Australian champion sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute’s Choice {Aus}) emerged from a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s G1 Newmarket H. with a torn muscle and stifle inflammation, according to Racing and Sports, but trainer Mick Price has declared the 5-year-old will be ready to defend his G1 T J Smith title at The Championships at Royal Randwick Apr. 4.
“He has a torn, superficial off-front pectoral muscle and some stifle inflammation,” Price told the site. “He did not run the race out, obviously, and while he seemed to vet up OK on Sunday morning the chiropractor’s report was more detailed.”
Lankan Rupee was also attempting to win the Newmarket for the second straight year, but that title instead fell to the 3-year-old Brazen Beau (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}).
