Team Valor's Sailor's Cap (Distant View–Wave On, by Caveat), who upset Kip Deville (Kipling) in Sunday's GIII Poker S. at Belmont Park Sunday, collapsed and died in his stall this morning, according to a Team Valor press release. The cause of death is unknown. “He spiked a temperature during the day on Tuesday and simply collapsed early in the morning,” trainer Jimmy Toner said. “We are all in complete shock over this turn of events.” Hero of last term's GIII Colonial Turf Cup S., the four-year-old won four of 10 starts and $616,970 in earnings. He also placed second in the 2008 GIII American Turf S. at Churchill and third in the GII Virginia Derby. He was bred in Kentucky by Wave On LLC, a Team Valor partnership.
