The top three finishers from Santa Anita’s Apr. 12 San Pedro S., Yiannis (Midshipman), Serbian Syclone (Wildcat Heir) and Kentuckian (Tiznow), will face off once again in that venue’s GIII Lazaro Barrera S. Sunday. Hronis Racing’s undefeated Yiannis was a debut winner in Arcadia Jan. 31 prior to his score in the San Pedro for trainer John Sadler.

Rockingham Ranch’s Serbian Syclone earned his diploma at second asking over the Del Mar synthetic Nov. 16 and captured an Arcadia optional claimer next out Dec. 31. Sixth in the GII San Vicente S. Feb. 1, the Peter Miller pupil was seventh when trying turf in this venue’s Baffle S. two weeks later. Miller also sends out Gary Barber, Leslie Moonves and Kevin Tsujihara’s Forest Blue (Tale of Ekati), who captured his career bow here Apr. 18.

Fox Hill Farm’s Kentuckian was dubbed a ‘TDN Rising Star’ after an impressive 11-length graduation in his unveiling over the Golden Gate synthetic Mar. 7. Trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, the gray has been working well since his San Pedro effort, most recently firing a six-panel bullet here in 1:11 1/5 Apr. 12. Hollendorfer also saddles Bloom Racing Stable and Sagamore Farm’s The Gomper (Sky Mesa), who was a debut winner at Los Alamitos Dec. 5. Second to Serbian Syclone in Arcadia Dec. 31, the bay was fourth to subsequent GII San Felipe S. runner-up Prospect Park (Tapit) and the reopposing St. Joe Bay (Saint Anddan) in another Arcadia optional claimer Jan. 30. Fifth in the San Felipe in his final start for previous trainer Ron Ellis, The Gomper makes his debut for the Hollendorfer barn in this spot.

Rounding out the field is Natalie Baffert and Bernie Schiappa’s The Man (Ecclesiastic), trained by Baffert’s Hall of Fame husband. Third on debut sprinting here Jan. 3, the dark bay was second in another Arcadia test Jan. 25 and finished seventh when extended to 1 1/16 miles over this strip Feb. 28. He earned his diploma last time with a decisive wire-to-wire victory when cut back to 5 1/2 panels Mar. 22.
