CONQUEST SURE SHOT (c, 2, Scat Daddy–Involved, by Speightstown), a $220,000 KEESEP yearling acquisition, was off slowly in his June 18 Belmont debut, but switched out wide for the stretch drive and finished with good energy to finish a never-nearer third behind Made You Look (More Than Ready) and Master Merion (Quality Road). The latter, the 5-2 favorite here while attempting to stretch out to a distance of ground, won the break from the inside and was allowed a relatively soft time of it on the engine as Conquest Sure Shot took up a ground-saving position from centerfield. Unbridled Eagle (Mineshaft) loomed up outside the chalk and raced stride for stride with that one into the final eighth of a mile, but Conquest Sure Shot came away from the fence and raced over the top two in the final 20 yards to score by a half-length at odds of 13-2. Master Merion held for second. Conquest Sure Shot is out of a winning half-sister to GSW Skip to the Stone (Skip Trial) and My Heavenly Sign (Forest Camp) and is kin to a yearling filly of this year by the expatriated Majestic Warrior. Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-1, $57,300. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
