+BOALT HALL (c, 3, Scat Daddy–Motion to Compel, by Yonaguska) , dismissed at 9-1 despite the fact that trainer Todd Pletcher had already sent out a sharp debut winner earlier on the card in odds-on Kinsley Kisses (Congrats), was ridden along to be fourth while well off the inside in the early going. He advanced ominously leaving the far turn, and took over at will approaching the straight. Longshot firster Kelly Tough (Quality Road) put in a good run late, but came up 2 1/4 lengths short of Boalt Hall, who provided rider John Velazquez with his fourth win on the card. Owner Stonestreet Stables bred the aforementioned Kinsley Kiss, while Boalt Hall's breeder Bend Or Thoroughbreds USA bred Saturday's Frank Whiteley Jr. S. winner Never Gone South (Munnings). Boalt Hall was the first foal out of a dam who was claimed for $5,000 in her final start. That mare sold for $75,000 carrying her second foal–a Tiz Wonderful colt–at the Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed sale in 2014. Motion to Compel produced a Power Broker colt in 2015, and was bred back to New Year's Day. A half-sister to MSW and graded stakes-winning producer Bristol Pistol, she hails from the female family of 1977 Kentucky Oaks winner Sweet Alliance, the dam of Irish Derby winner Shareef Dancer. Sales history: $150,000 Wlg '13 KEENOV; $360,000 Ylg '14 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
