Scat Daddy Firster Hits a Home Run in Tampa Debut

8th-TAM, $20,000, Msw, 11-30, 3yo/up, 6f, 1:10.74, ft.

+BIG PAPI (c, 3, Scat Daddy–Little Green Light, by Smarty Jones) became trainer Jonathan Thomas's second maiden winner on the Wednesday card in Oldsmar with an eye-catching debut score. The chestnut trained at Bridlewood Farm during the early autumn and finalized his preparations for this unveiling with a four-furlong gate breeze over the local strip Nov. 17. Away to a sharp beginning, the colt set the pace through fractions of :22.48 and :45.92. Entering the lane with a narrow advantage, he turned back a challenge from Split the Uprights (Cape Blanco {Ire}) in upper stretch and spurted away to post a 5 1/4-length score over that rival. The winner sold for $200,000 as a Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old. His unraced dam is a half-sister to MGSW and sire Too Much Bling (Rubiano), as well as three other stakes winners and the dam of MGSW El Kabeir (Scat Daddy). Big Papi has an unraced juvenile half-brother named Green Eyed Kitten (Kitten's Joy), a yearling half-brother by Uncle Mo and a weanling half-brother by Verrazano. Little Green Light was bred back to Into Mischief earlier this year. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $12,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
