Scat Daddy's Acapulco Wins For Ballydoyle

In foal to Galileo (Ire), one-time G2 Queen Mary S. heroine and G1 Nunthorpe S. runner-up Acapulco was able to mark her debut for Ballydoyle with a smooth win under Donnacha O'Brien. Positioned behind the early leaders, the hooded bay moved up to take control passing the furlong pole and readily asserted from the fair yardstick Ardhoomey. Last seen finishing sixth in the 6 1/2-furlong GIII Senator Ken Maddy S. at Santa Anita in November, Acapulco could now be in the picture for the major Royal Ascot sprints. “At home we were trying to get her to relax and that's what the hood was all about,” her jockey commented. “She was a bit lazy today, but when I gave her a squeeze she quickened up nicely. I think when we take the hood off her she'll step up again. It's a lovely start. It was perfect for her first day, let her relax and enjoy it, so it worked.”

One of two stakes winners bred from Global Finance, who was herself the winner of four races at two including the Nursery S., Acapulco has a yearling full-sister and a foal half-brother by American Pharoah to proceed her. The dam is a half to the Susan's Girl S. winner Friendly Appeal (Valid Appeal), herself the dam of the Listed Ack Ack H. winner Tom Cruise (Time For a Change), while the third dam Friendly Gesture (Ire) (Sallust {GB}) is a half to the G2 Waterford Crystal Mile and G3 Horris Hill S. winner Montekin (Ire) (Mount Hagen {Fr}) and the GIII Will Rogers H. scorer Mazaad (Ire) (Auction Ring). This is the line of the 1000 Guineas heroine Night Off (GB) (Narrator {GB}).
