Godolphin's Scottish (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), second in his Australian debut in the G1 Caulfield Cup Oct. 15, has been scratched from Saturday's G1 Emirates S. at Flemington after injuring a fetlock.
“He may have wrenched his fetlock,” said trainer Charlie Appleby. “We have taken veterinary advice and after discussing the matter with [Godolphin chief executive] John Ferguson, who is currently in America, we decided he should miss the Emirates.”
The 4-year-old gelding Scottish headed to Australia for a spring campaign following a productive season in Britain, where he hit the board in all four starts including wins in the Listed Steventon S. and G3 Strensall S.
“It's a blow, but hopefully after we take him home, and he can have a nice break, he will make a full recovery and return to Melbourne again next year,” Appleby said. “He is a cracking horse, as he showed everybody with his gutsy second at Caulfield.”
