Martin Schwartz's Sea Calisi (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}) looks to defend her title in the GII Sheepshead Bay S. at Belmont Park Saturday. The 5-year-old is the only Grade I winner in the seven-horse field, having captured the GI Beverly D. S. last August. Third behind Lady Eli (Divine Park) in the GI Flower Bowl Invitational, she has been off since finishing seventh in the Nov. 5 GI Breeders' Cup F/M Turf–her lone off-the-board finish in five U.S. starts. Juddmonte Farms' Suffused (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}) looks for her third straight graded stakes score in the Sheepshead Bay. The 5-year-old mare won last year's GIII Glens Falls S. over the Saratoga turf at the Sheephead's 1 3/8-mile distance and she was just nosed out of the win when second behind Al's Gal (English Channel) in the Oct. 16 GI E.P. Taylor S. She opened 2017 with a win in the Jan. 28 GIII La Prevoyante H. and is coming off a five-length tally in the Mar. 4 GIII The Very One S. Apple Betty (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), multiple group placed in France for trainer Jean-Claude Rouget, makes her first start for Shug McGaughey. The 4-year-old filly has been off since finishing second, beaten just a nose, in the Oct. 23 GIII Dowager S. at Keeneland.
