Selling for a Song: Sadler's Wells Mare Brings 1,700,000gns at Tatts

Badgers Bloodstock's Grant Pritchard-Gordon, representing the Australian Paul Makin, saw off all challengers to land the three-year-old Song (Ire) (Sadler's Wells–Jude {GB}, by Darshaan {GB}) for 1,700,000 guineas during Tuesday's session of the Tattersalls December Mare Sale. Pritchard-Gordon trumped John Warren, the immediate underbidder who bidding on behalf of Gestut Fahrhof's Andreas Jacobs.

The unraced Song hails from a top family, with her full-siblings including Irish champion two-year-old Quarter Moon (Ire) and Yesterday (Ire) and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Yesterday (Ire). She was consigned by Bugley Stud and sold in foal on an Apr. 19 cover to Coolmore's star stallion Danehill Dancer (Ire). The winning connections indicated the mare would be shipped to Ireland and be covered by a stallion there in 2010.
