Seth Hancock Joins WHOA

Seth Hancock, whose family owns Claiborne Farm, released a statement Monday announcing he has added his support of the Water Hay Oats Alliance and its call for the passage of federal legislation to ban race-day drugs. Hancock’s statement reads:

I’ve never trained a race horse in my life and I don’t pretend to know how. I was privileged to be around one of the all-time greats from the time the first set went out until entry time for over 400 mornings. His name was Woody Stephens. It is hard for me to believe he was able to achieve all of his accomplishments with no race-day medication while many of today’s trainers will tell you it is hard to get a horse to race without it.
One thing I do know is that no business can sustain a 4% drop yearly in its gross revenue and survive. That’s what the sport of Thoroughbred Racing is faced with.
I wholeheartedly support WHOA and its efforts, along with The Jockey Club and Breeders’ Cup and hopefully TOBA and Keeneland, to stop race-day medication.
