Beginning to edge away from his pace foe nearing the turn for home, Oxblood was softened up for the drive and the dark bay gelding began to shorten stride while jumping back to his left lead in the final sixteenth. Conquest Lemonraid (Lemon Drop Kid) produced a good charge after the leader, but the wire came in time for Oxblood to hold on by a nose.
