Shah/Baffert Concord Point Firster Impresses at Del Mar

Kaleem Shah and Bob Baffert, who teamed up to take Saturday's GII Best Pal S. with 'TDN Rising Star' Klimt (Quality Road), unveiled another promising youngster in +AMERICAN GAL (f, 2, Concord Point–American Story {GSP, $189,200}, by Ghostzapper), who dueled through quick fractions and turned back a perfect-trip challenger for a good-looking first-out score. Taking all of the late money to go off at 7-5, the bay battled for early command with Grand Prix (Tale of the Cat) through a sizzling quarter-mile in :21.54. Discarding that one midway on the far turn, Americal Gal soon encountered a strong bid from Partyinthepaddock (Harlan's Holiday), who sat the garden trip in third off the dueling leaders. That one appeared ready to win off, but the homebred favorite bravely stiff-armed her in early stretch and stayed on sharply to graduate by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:03.27. The winner's graded stakes-placed dam is a half to G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen hero Reynaldothewizard (Speightstown) and MGISW Seventh Street (Street Cry {Ire}), who is also the dam of 'TDN Rising Star' Marking (Bernardini). American Gal has a yearling full-brother named American All Star and a weanling full-sister named America's Starlet. American Story was bred back to Bayern this term. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $37,800. O/B-Kaleem Shah Inc.; T-Bob Baffert.
