Sheikh Joaan New President of QOC

Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani was elected President of the Olympic Committee of Qatar (QOC) in Doha, Thursday. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani will be the sixth president of the AOC since it was created in 1979 and his focus will be on the next Olympic Games, to be held in the summer of 2016 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Previously an ambassador for his country during the torch relay for the XV Asian Youth Games in Doha in 2006, he also organized the World Handball Championships last January in Qatar. The head of Al Shaqab Racing has already enjoyed great success in Thoroughbred racing with dual-G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve (Fr) (Motivator {GB}) and has two G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) hopefuls in the form of Karar (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) and Smaih (Ger) (Paco Boy {Ire}).
