Sheikhzayedroad US-Bound

Trainer David Simcock is contemplating whether to give GISW Sheikhzayedroad (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) another outing before sending him on his travels to America.

Plans have been drawn up for the 7-year-old, who holds an entry in next month's G2 Qatar Goodwood Cup, to contest either the GIII American St Leger at Arlington Park Aug. 13 or Saratoga's GI Longines Sword Dancer S. Aug. 27.

Simcock's charge turned in a most encouraging effort on his most recent outing, and first start of the year in Britain, when outrunning his 40-1 price tag to finish third in the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot on ground softer than ideal.

The trainer said: “He is a star and a real pleasure to train. He is a model of consistency and does everything right. He is going to take up an engagement in America in August in either the American St Leger or the Sword Dancer S. at Saratoga. It is whether we have a race before either of those or leave him fresh, as he is a horse that goes well fresh.”

Winner of the 2014 GI Northern Dancer S. at Woodbine in Canada, Sheikhzayedroad kicked off his current campaign with a 3 3/4-length victory in the G3 Nad al Sheba Trophy over 14 furlongs Mar. 3.
