TDN's Steve Sherack and Brian DiDonato will give their best bet of the day for every Friday, Saturday and Sunday card of the Saratoga meet, and bet $50 Win/Place on their selection. In the case of a scratch, an alternate pick will be posted on twitter. The handicapper who has accrued the biggest bankroll through Sept. 3 wins.
SS: Saturday's Result – Thought Gift Box (fourth at 17-1) was moving well and had a chance after those early fractions, then I looked up and saw what Arrogate was doing. What an amazing performance… Running out of bullets, but this still isn't over yet. Total: $890.
Sunday, Race 9, OC – C d'Cat, hung out on the AE's in Friday's Yaddo S., is awfully tough to resist in this spot. The dark bay put it all together with a nice win in a starter allowance at this distance in her 2015 finale at the Big A in November, and returned from the bench with a smart second in a key state-bred allowance race going six furlongs over the Belmont lawn in June. The winner that day Animal Appeal returned to capture an optional claimer with a gaudy 96 Beyer at the Spa earlier this meeting and the third-place finisher Louisville First, three lengths behind C d'Cat, was a next out heroine of the New York Stallion S. just 11 days later. C d'Cat ran to the money at 4-5 with a facile score to clear her first state-bred allowance condition going seven furlongs at Belmont July 16, and should find herself sitting a similar trip behind the speedy Lakeside Sunset here. Expecting another big effort from her third start off the layoff. Selection: #7 C d'Cat (4-1).
BD: Saturday's Result – Star Hill failed to make an impact at a big price in the King's Bishop. Total: $1532.50.
Sunday, Race 7, MSW – Just about everything points to Sky Gesture being ready to run first out. Trainer Rick Violette has strong numbers with newcomers–especially 2-year-olds–and those stats include two half-siblings to Sky Gesture, subsequent stakes winner Noble and a Beauty and 14-1 upsetter Moon Over a Beauty. Dam Overandabeauty (Grand Slam), a half-sister to Tapit, was second in her juvenile unveiling here before graduating second out; and second dam Tap Your Heels (Unbridled) was a close second in August of her 2-year-old year before winning a dirt sprint stakes race that season by 11 lengths. Tapit was also a big first-out winner at two. Progeny of Tiznow generally take a bit more time and distance to show their best, but at least this race is at six panels and not five or 5 1/2. Selection: #5 Sky Gesture (6-1).
Tune in each race day from 4 – 6:30 p.m. for Saratoga Live, available on Fox Sports 2 (channel finder), MSG+ (channel finder) and Altitude (channel finder) and presented by Claiborne Farm.
