The winner of the GIII Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, Silent Tactic (Tacitus) has scratched from the GI Kentucky Derby after battling a bruised foot according to his trainer Mark Casse on Wednesday morning. The defection allowed Great White (Volatile) into the big race where he will carry the number 21. DRF was the first to report the story.
Silent Tactic, a colt owned by John Oxley, was dealing with a sore foot before the GI Arkansas Derby. He came to Churchill Downs after serving as the runner-up to Renegade (Into Mischief) at Oaklawn.
Great White won the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway Park in late February, then ran fifth for trainer John Ennis in the GI Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland last month. The massive colt is owned by Three Chimneys Farm and Ennis. The gray was a 2024 Fasig-Tipton Digital December Sale buy for $55,000.
Early Wednesday afternoon, trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. informed officials at Churchill Downs that GII Gulfstream Park Oaks runner-up My Miss Mo (Uncle Mo) was being withdrawn from Friday's GI Longines Kentucky Oaks. No reason for the decision was immediately forthcoming.
