Silverwave, runner-up to New Bay (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in the G2 Prix Niel on this card at Longchamp last year, ran 10th in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe back there next time and transferred from Alain Couetil's yard to open up with a seventh for Pascal Bary going 10 panels here in the Apr. 10 G2 Prix d'Harcourt before posting a second in the Saint-Cloud's May 1 G1 Prix Ganay. Another left for dust by A Shin Hikari (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) when third in the May 24 G1 Prix d'Ispahan at this track once more, he gained a breakthrough score in the July 3 G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last time and doubled his Group 1 tally here. He occupied the prime slot in second racing under a taut rein from the outset. Easing out of the slipstream of the frontrunning Ito with 300 metres remaining, the even-money chalk swept by that rival entering the final eighth en route to a decisive success. “It was the perfect reintroduction and I could not imagine things going any better than that for a trial,” beamed Bary. “He has a good temperament, stays the trip well and never runs a bad race. At this stage, all being well, we'll give him the green light for the [G1 Prix de l'] Arc [de Triomphe back here Oct. 2].”
