Simple Verse Set For Jockey Club

Simple Verse | Racing Post

Last year's G1 St Leger winner Simple Verse (Ire) (Duke Of Marmalade {Ire}) is set to clash with another Classic winner of her generation, G1 Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling), when she resumes in the G2 Jockey Club S. Apr. 30 at Newmarket. Simple Verse rides a four-race win streak and has been off since taking the G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares S. at Ascot Oct. 17, and trainer Ralph Beckett said the 4-year-old is primed for a return.

“Simple Verse is in good shape and I am keen to run her in the Dunaden At Overbury Jockey Club S. as a prep race for the [G1] Coronation Cup [at Epsom June 4],” Beckett said. “She has done well over the winter and I am very happy with her condition, although I wouldn't want to risk her on fast ground if it dries up at Newmarket.”

Of the prospect of facing the likes of Jack Hobbs, Beckett said, “She took on the boys and managed to beat them in the St Leger so, until proven otherwise, I am happy for her continue to do so.”
