Stratum (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}–Bourgeois {Aus}, by Luskin Star {Aus}) has died after suffering a heart attack in his paddock at Widden Stud on Tuesday. The 14-year-old won the 2005 G1 Golden Slipper for the Wallace family and trainer Paul Perry and was an instant success after retiring to Widden Stud the following year. He was crowned champion first-season sire and champion 2-year-old sire during his first year with runners, that crop including Crystal Lily (Aus), who emulated her sire with a win in the Golden Slipper. Stratum's progeny also include the four-time Group 1 winner Streama (Aus) and last year's G1 Sir Rupert Clarke S. victor Stratum Star (Aus).
“It's a very sad day for us all,” said Widden Stud owner Antony Thompson. “He was a great stallion and such a lovely, kind horse. He was great to work with and he will be sadly missed.”
