Smooth As Silk In Hutch: Local Hopeful Posts Upset

Let go at 9-1, Calder-based Smooth Air (Smooth Jazz) fought his way past Silver Edition (Silver Deputy) in the final yards to take the GII Hutcheson S. at Gulfstream yesterday. The Bennie Stutts Jr. trainee, twice placed in Calder stakes, was coming off a 4 3/4-length allowance score at his home track Nov. 26. He becomes the first stakes winner for his sophomore sire (by Storm Boot).
