After a warm-up win that barely hinted at her inherent ability in the Listed Preis Dusseldorf over 10 1/2 furlongs June 25, Serienholde whose family is rich with domestic Classic performers stepped up to provide trainer Andreas Wohler with a fourth renewal of this prestigious prize and a third in succession in the able hands of Eduardo Pedroza. Runner-up to Dhaba (Ger) (Areion {Ger}) in Baden-Baden's G3 Preis der Winterkonigin over a mile in October, the bay was breaking her maiden over the same distance at Dortmund June 4 before booking her place in this line-up with an ultimately comfortable win despite slipping exiting the stalls in the Preis Dusseldorf. Settled on the rail in fifth early, the bay had dead aim on the favourite Architecture just ahead but as that British raider began to labour in early straight it was compatriot Sarandia who gave Serienholde most to think about as she threatened to give them all the slip. Putting her head down to produce a surge up the centre of the track, the homebred duly wore her down in the last 100 metres for a hard-fought victory, with Architecture just holding on to third with her English and Irish Oaks efforts perhaps telling.
With this landmark success, Serienholde was becoming the third group 1 and second Classic winner for her sire and is currently the last known foal bred from Saldenehre who won as a juvenile and ran listed-placed at three and is also the dam of the G3 Maurice Lacroix Trophy-winning juvenile Serienhoehe. The second dam is the Listed Dortmunder Stutenpreis winner Salde, who produced the dual group 3-winning highweight Saldenschwinge (Ger) from a mating with Soldier Hollow's sire In the Wings (GB). She in turn is the dam of the ill-fated 2016 Listed Dusseldorf Derby Trial winner Swinging Duke (Ger) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}). Salde's G3 Baden Wurttemberg-Trophy-winning daughter Saldentigerin (Ger) (Tiger Hill {Ire}) also ran third in this race and second in the G1 Preis von Europa and has subsequently thrown the 2012 Diana heroine Salomina (Ger) (Lomitas {GB}), while another of Salde's progeny is the G1 Rheinland-Pokal runner-up and G1 Deutsches Derby third Saltas (Ger) (Lomitas {GB}). Intriguingly, Serienholde's fourth dam Salesiana (Ger) (Alpenkonig {Ger}) whose best progeny was the G3 Curragh Cup winner Peppertree Lane (Ire) (Peintre Celebre) is also the third dam of this Classic's runner-up Sarandia.
