Unbeaten champion Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro), preparing for an eastward assault, worked four furlongs Sunday at Santa Anita in :49.20. The 'TDN Rising Star,' who took her record to a perfect eight-for-eight with a 6 1/2-length romp in the June 18 GII Summertime Oaks, is expected to start in the Aug. 20 GI Alabama S. at Saratoga.
“It was just a real nice work,” reported trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. “She went off slow and finished up good. We were all happy afterwards.”
Hollendorfer enjoyed a six-win day Saturday in California, with three straight wins at Santa Anita and an additional three at the Oak Tree at Pleasanton meet.
“We had a real good day,” the Hall of Fame said. “We're very grateful.”
