Fox Hill Farms' undefeated Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) kicked off the new year with a half-mile breeze in :47.20 (4/21) at Santa Anita Friday morning under regular rider Mike Smith (video). The “TDN Rising Star” is set to make her 3-year-old debut in Arcadia's GII Las Virgenes S. Feb. 6.
“I'm very happy with where she is at this point,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. “She's an absolute professional. The Las Virgenes is the race we're pointing to.”
A perfect four-for-four, Songbird followed her debut victory at Del Mar July 26 with a pair of wins in the GI Del Mar Debutante S. Sept. 5 and the GI Chandelier S. Sept. 26. She wrapped up her juvenile campaign, and stamped herself as the overwhelming favorite for champion juvenile filly honors, with an ultra-impressive victory in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Oct. 31.
