Sonic Boom Set to Make Noise in American Derby

Lothenbach Stables' Sonic Boom (More Than Ready) will take on six rivals in Saturday's GIII American Derby at Arlington Park. The chestnut colt, a stakes winner over the Tampa Bay turf in March, faltered to seventh in the Apr. 7 GIII Transylvania S., but returns to the graded ranks off a sparkling front-running victory in a May 29 allowance at Churchill Downs. His three lifetime wins have all come at a mile or shorter and he looks to stretch out to nine furlongs Saturday.

Ramsey homebred Gorgeous Kitten (Kitten's Joy) , a maiden winner over Turfway's synthetic surface in February, added a nine-furlong turf allowance at Keeneland Apr. 26 and closed to be second over 1 1/16 miles over the Arlington turf course in the May 27 GIII Arlington Classic.

The Ramsey colors will also be carried by Hembree (Proud Citizen), who returns to the turf after fifth-place efforts over Churchill's main track May 6 and June 4. The dark bay graduated on debut sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over the Saratoga turf last August.
