South Africa Tops Inglis Winter Sale

Three-year-old South Africa (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) (lot 31) topped a tiny Inglis Winter Thoroughbred Sale in Sydney on Friday when selling to trainer John Thompson for A$100,000. An unraced A$650,000 Inglis Easter purchase formerly owned by a partnership including Newgate SF, China Horse Club and Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, South Africa has trialled three times under the care of Peter and Paul Snowden. As his yearling price tag would suggest he is well bred, being out of G2 Rose Of Kingston S. winner Vormista (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}) and a half-brother to G1 Blue Diamond S. runner-up Reemah (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}).

South Africa was by far the most expensive of 34 horses to go through the ring on Friday. The second-highest price was the A$27,500 paid by Inglis as agent for the 4-year-old mare Who's Gorgeous (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}). Thirty of the 34 offered were sold at an average price of A$13,050 and a median of A$10,500.
