Southwestern Heat Succumbs to Colic

New Mexico stallion Southwestern Heat (Gone West–Xtra Heat, by Dixieland Heat) was euthanized Jan. 13 after developing a case of colic. The son of Hall of Fame sprinter Xtra Heat was taken to a medical clinic, where it was determined the horse would most likely not survive surgery. Ranking among the top five New Mexico stallions in recent years, the chestnut's most notable progeny is Bryn's Fancy Pants, a multiple stakes winner.
