The lot of the speed sire is a tough one. It's a ultra competitive category in Britain and Ireland, but the rewards are great for those that make it to the top–just look at the 2017 advertised fees for the majority of these top 10 sires. All of the stallions have and average winning distance for their runners aged three and up of less than a mile. It's certainly a surprise that Pivotal's average winning distance is still short of a mile considering that top-class 10-furlong horses Farhh and African Story are among his very best. Clearly the up-and-coming speed influences among this group are Dark Angel, Dutch Art and Showcasing, all of whom has achieved great things from humble beginnings.
