+FROSTMOURNE (c, 2, Speightstown–Leaning Tower, by Theatrical {Ire}) combined an advantageous trip with a strong turn of foot to graduate going two turns on debut at Saratoga. Breaking well as the 29-10 second choice under leading rider Jose Ortiz, the homebred found a good spot early, tracking a joint third along the rail as longshot Indy Hill (English Channel) showed the way through a :24.22 quarter-mile. That one slowed the pace down significantly on the backstretch run, getting a half in :50.45 and clicking off three-quarters in a dawdling 1:16 flat. Confidently handled on the far turn, Frostmourne was given a large rail opening at the top of the lane when the leader came wide and burst through to take command in only a few strides. Drifting out a bit himself in midstretch, the dark bay quickly corrected himself and came home a convincing 2 1/4-length winner. The pacesetter held for second. Apartfromthecrowd (Gio Ponti), bet down to favoritism on debut for the Chad Brown barn, lagged second-last and finished up decently to be fourth after being compromised by the slow pace. Frostmourne RNA'ed for $375,000 as a KEESEP yearling. He is a half to Karelian (Bertrando), GISW, $788,675; and Colgan's Chip (Cee's Tizzy), GSP, $233,377. His dam is a half to GSW/GISP millionaire and Sovereign Award-winning older horse Basqueian (Bounding Basque). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $49,800.
