PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE
With persistent rain blighting Haydock's big day, Saturday's G1 32Red Sprint Cup was robbed of fast-ground lover Limato (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}) but handed a lifeline as the filly Quiet Reflection (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) registered an impressive second success at the highest level. Third in the G1 July Cup over this trip at Newmarket last time July 9, the June 17 G1 Commonwealth Cup heroine travelled with menace behind the early leaders and when given the command by Dougie Costello took control approaching the furlong pole. Chased by The Tin Man (GB) (Equiano {Fr}) from there, the 7-2 favourite was always out of reach and hit the line strong with 1 3/4 lengths to spare. “She is a push-button, go ride and I don't think I'll ever ride another like her again,” her ex-jumps jockey partner commented. “She was a little bit fresh and I was running way, but she idled and has won as she likes.”

Flashing instant talent when debuting with a five-length win over five furlongs at Hamilton last July, Quiet Reflection was only fifth bounced in York's G2 Lowther S. upped to this trip the following month but signed off her juvenile campaign with two more wins back at five in the Listed Harry Rosebery S. at Ayr in September and G3 Cornwallis S. at Newmarket in October. Back with another success in Chantilly's G3 Prix Sigy over this trip Apr. 10, she stayed at that distance to stamp her class on the G2 Sandy Lane S. at Haydock May 28 before denying Kachy (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) by a length in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot June 17. It may have been the good-to-firm ground that compromised her in the July Cup, where the impressive Limato and also Suedois were ahead and with significant ease in the going here she was back with all the swagger of her Sandy Lane success.
Always easy keeping tabs on the leading group headed by Kachy, Quiet Reflection moved on the rain-afflicted ground as if it was fast and the writing was already on the wall as she breezed by the Stewards' Cup heroine Dancing Star (GB) (Aqlaam {GB}) with a quarter mile to race. As the front-runners folded ahead of her, she was committed by Dougie Costello and was able to put safe distance between her and The Tin Man in a matter of strides. “She'll go to Ascot next for the [Oct. 15 G1 QIPCO British] Champions Sprint and I'm praying she stays well and sound so she can stay in training next year,” trainer Karl Burke commented. “I knew she'd improved and strengthened. The whole team have done a great job and there's the farrier Andy Grant. He's done a fantastic job all year with her feet. They haven't been the best. I know we wanted a bit of rain, but I was a bit worried when it got this soft as I thought it might play into the hands of the older horses. She's just got speed to burn. She travels well and is so relaxed. She blows when she works, but when she runs she doesn't turn a hair.” Quiet Reflection's dam My Delirium has also produced the 2-year-old Full Intention (GB), also by Showcasing, who was fourth Royal Ascot's Listed Windsor Castle S. earlier this summer. A granddaughter of the Listed Hilary Needler Trophy winner Clare Hills, she has significantly upgraded her pedigree with her achievements both last year and this.
