Stakes-Winning Gelding Brings $625K To Top Dubai Carnival Sale

New Freedom (Brz) (Burooj {GB}), entered in Thursdayís G3 Mahab al Shimaal at Nad Al Sheba, attracted a sale-topping bid of AED2.3-million (approximately $626,000) at yesterdayís inaugural Dubai International Racing Carnival Sale. The seven-year-old gelding, a stakes winner and Group 1 placed in his native Brazil, has made six starts in the UAE and is coming off a 6 1/2-length victory at the DIRC meeting Jan. 31. He was sold to Ali Saeed Belhab. Belhab, who campaigned 1994 Hong Kong Vase winner Red Bishop, was also responsible for the dayís second-highest price, paying AED460,000 for Kayak (SAf) (Western Winter). A six-year-old gelding, Kayak won the Winter Racing Challenge Final of trainer Mike de Kock on Jan. 3.
