Successful in the May 1 G3 Bavarian Classic at Munich, Qatar Racing's Warring States (Jpn) (Victoire Pisa {Jpn}) bids to add further lustre to his tally as he tackles Sunday's G2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen at Cologne. Suffering his sole defeat when 10th of 13 in a G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud that has subsequently thrown up an Epsom Derby winner and Prix du Jockey Club runner-up, the chestnut is one of Germany's leading protagonists for the G1 Deutsches Derby.
Gestut Rottgen's Windstoss (Ger) (Shirocco {Ger}) looked another to keep in mind for that Hamburg Classic when taking the Listed Derby-Trial over 11 furlongs at Dusseldorf on Apr. 9, while Stall Ullmann's Monreal (Ire) (Peintre Celebre) also possesses the class to make his presence felt there. He was fourth behind the subsequent Prix du Jockey Club-placed pair Recoletos (Fr) (Whipper) and Waldgeist (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G2 Prix Greffulhe over a mile-and-a-quarter at Saint-Cloud on May 8.
