Fourth in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden over the Del Mar Polytrack July 20, Global View was switched to Santa Anita’s hillside turf course Oct. 27 and raced prominently before drawing off to graduate by a widening 1 3/4 lengths. Put away for the year following a decisive 1 1/4-length score in Hollywood’s
GIII Generous S. Nov. 30, Global View had the misfortune of hooking up with GSW & GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf third Bobby’s Kitten (Kitten’s Joy) in a Tampa allowance Mar. 8, where he dropped a 1 1/2-length decision. The Lavin runner simply failed to handle the Keeneland Poly last time, finishing a distant seventh behind Medal Count (Dynaformer) in the rained-off GIII Transylvania S. Apr. 5 and offered serious value while returning to his preferred surface Saturday. Global View was one of the first away, but allowed himself to be taken back and switched off nicely for Gary Stevens in seventh position as Craftsman (Ire) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) and Storming Inti eyeballed each other through an opening four furlongs in a moderate :47.99. Global View commenced his rally and though wide on the turn while picking off horses, had some cover in the form of longshot Long On Value (Value Plus). Storming Inti put away the race-long challenge from Craftsman with three-sixteenths to come, but Stevens– perhaps channeling his ride on War Chant in the 2000 GI Breeders’ Cup Mile–steered Global View out to the grandstand side, accelerated markedly entering the final furlong and grabbed Storming Inti in the shadow of the post. “[Trainer] Tom [Proctor] just said, ‘Enjoy yourself, have a good time.’” the winning jockey explained. “I want you to concentrate on just the finish. I don’t care where you’re at early.’ He said, ‘Just make sure you’ve got horse to finish up with.’ It took me a while through the stretch the first time to wrangle him back, get him to settle. And once he did, it was just a matter of getting him out at the head of the stretch and letting him do his thing. He’s got a powerful, powerful kick.”
