Hall of Fame rider Gary Stevens, a regular in the Southern California jockey colony, said he will depart from his usual wintertime location at Santa Anita and ride at Oaklawn Park beginning Jan. 13. The Hot Springs, Arkansas oval offers some of the highest purses of any track running in the winter months.

“It's more money, more opportunities and more horses,” Stevens said. “I don't have a lot of business [right now].”

Stevens, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997, has won a total of nine Triple Crown races and 11 Breeders' Cup events throughout his career. His most recent notable triumph came with Beholder (Henny Hughes)'s nose victory over Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) in Friday's GI Breeders' Cup Distaff.
