Bidding on behalf of an undisclosed buyer, trainer Bob Baffert went to $500,000 for a robust bay colt by Stormy Atlantic on the first of four days of Book 2-selling at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale in Lexington. The March foal is a full brother to GISP Coast Guard, a $300,000 KEESEP graduate who was third to former Baffert inmate Pioneerof the Nile (Empire Maker) in last year's GI Santa Anita Derby in the colors of Amerman Racing. Consigned by Gerry Dilger's Dromoland Farm Inc, as agent, hip 228 was purchased by Pearl Street Farm for $200,000 as a short yearling this past winter at the auction house's January Horses of All Ages Sale. He is also kin to Garifine (Belong to Me), who topped the 2006 OBS March Sale on a bid of $1.8 million.
