It is rare for a winner of this to go on to Epsom Derby glory, with the last two to do so being Kahyasi (Ire) in 1988 and High-Rise (Ire) in 1998, and it remains to be seen whether this year's protagonists are able to end that long wait. Godolphin's Winning Story took a decent 10-furlong maiden at Newmarket on debut Apr. 13, and Saeed bin Suroor is hoping for a bold show. “He did a really nice piece of work on Wednesday morning, which showed he is well at home,” he said. “He is in good form and is improving all the time. I think the step up in trip will suit him and the ground should be fine. We always thought he was a nice horse and one that would get better with time.” The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall's homebred Carntop is a fascinating contender from the Ralph Beckett stable and the October Newmarket maiden winner was supplemented to the Epsom Derby at a cost of £8,000 last month. “I was delighted with his run at Newmarket. He has had a good spring and has been working well. This race was always the plan,” Beckett explained. “We will see what happens on Saturday, as that will tell us where we will go next with him.” Sir Michael Stoute puts forward Across the Stars, who took a 12-furlong maiden on the Polytrack here Apr. 6 and owner Saeed Suhail's racing manager Bruce Raymond is expecting him to handle this test. “It was a messy race last time with just the four runners and I think he needed the run and the experience,” he said. “I thought it was a good enough start to the season. The switch to the turf track on Saturday will definitely help and we are hoping he can go well. I am not saying he is going to win, but he has been showing much more in his work and Sir Michael has got a good opinion of him.”
