Good things were expected from hip 55 well before he breezed an eighth of a mile in a smart :10 2/5 at last Friday's under-tack show and the colt held up his end of the bargain Tuesday at Fasig-Tipton, selling to John Ferguson on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for $2.1 million. East coast trainer Steve Klesaris was the immediate underbidder. The bay colt was consigned by Scanlon Training Center, agent for owner Paul Pompa, Jr., who went to $425,000 to acquire the April foal at last year's Keeneland September Yearling sale.
