Strike a Pose: Stonestreet Acquires Smart Strike Filly

Barbara Banke's Stonestreet Stables has had plenty of success with the offspring–male and female–of Smart Strike, and the team reached in yesterday and gave $800,000 for Craig Singer's multiple graded-stakes winner Salty Strike (m, 5, Smart Strike–Lake Huron, by Salt Lake). Consigned as a racing or broodmare prospect by Lane's End, the attractive dark bay landed the GIII Dogwood S. as a 3-year-old in 2011 and held her best form into 2012, winning the GIII Gardenia S. at Ellis Park and four additional black-type events. She most recently defended her title for trainer Ken McPeek in the Dream Supreme S. at Churchill Downs Nov. 23 and has nine wins from 20 starts for earnings of $485,266. Stonestreet has campaigned the likes of champions Curlin and My Miss Aurelia and have reguarly acquired young offspring of Smart Strike at public auction.
