Tapestry (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) looks set to be the sole Ballydoyle representative in the G1 Coronation Cup on Epsom Derby day June 6. Trainer Aidan O'Brien has already won the middle distance contest seven times and relies on the 4-year-old filly who last year lowered the colours of Taghrooda (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in the G1 Yorkshire Oaks before running unplaced behind Treve (FR) (Motivator (GB}) in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. A quality field of colts and geldings will also be in the mix with a strong Gallic challenge headed by Flintshire (GB) (Dansili {GB}) and Cirrus Des Aigles (Fr) (Even Top (Ire)}. The evergreen Cirrus Des Aigles looks set to take in the G1 Prix d'Ispahan en route to defending his title in the race and will also face tough competition from the Alain De Royer-Dupre trained Dolniya (Fr) (Azamour {Ire}). This Aga Khan homebred filly already has a victory over Flintshire to her name when beating the Juddmonte colt in the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic in Dubai in March.
Another veteran who could take his chance is Red Cadeaux (GB) (Cadeaux Genereaux {GB}). Ed Dunlop's globetrotter has been kept busy this year having already run in Australia and Hong Kong and the trainer said, “It is a race under consideration – his next run is likely to be at either Epsom or Royal Ascot. We will see how he is nearer the time. He is on the comeback trail at the moment after returning from his latest world travels.”
