Khalid Abdullah homebred Fair Eva (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who became Juddmonte's first runner and winner by its peerless homebred Frankel when taking a Haydock maiden by four lengths June 8, has a few potential black-type options ahead of her, revealed Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe when issuing an update on a handful of the stable's runners on Thursday.
The chestnut daughter of Group 1-winning sprinter African Rose (GB) (Observatory) had been considered for novice races at Newbury and Haydock this week, but Grimthorpe said she could instead go up in class later in the month.
“[Trainer] Roger [Charlton] is very pleased with her and she's come on since the race [at Haydock],” he noted. “I think we're just going to pick and choose where we go. She has various options. She could go for a novice race, but if not there is something like the [Listed] Star S. at Sandown [July 21], the [G3] Princess Margaret at Ascot [July 23]–that sort of thing.”
Grimthorpe told At The Races one-time G1 Investec Derby favourite Midterm (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), who didn't contest the blue riband after finishing a disappointing fifth as the favourite in the G2 Dante S. May 12–could return to action in the Aug. 17 G2 Great Voltigeur S. at York.
“Midterm is back cantering this week,” Grimthorpe said of the son of six-time Grade/Group 1 winner Midday (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}). “I saw him a couple of days ago and he's in really good form. The Great Voltigeur could be a target. I think it might be a bit premature, but you never know.”
Grimthorpe said Khalid Abdullah's Midweek (GB) (Motivator {GB}), under the care of Criquette Head-Maarek in France, looks likely to drop back in class next week, having last been seen finishing eighth in the G1 Investec Oaks May 1.
“Midweek is coming back and will run in a listed race next week, I think,” he said. “We're still hopeful she's going to turn into a decent filly.”
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Exosphere (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}) was a disappointing eighth of nine in Royal Ascot's G2 Hardwicke S. after coming home an impressive winner of the G2 Jockey Club S. Apr. 30, and Grimthorpe said no excuses had surfaced.
“We don't know what happened to Exosphere,” he said. “Nothing came out of it, he scoped fine and was sound out of the race. He will probably head for the [G2] Princess of Wales's [at Newmarket July 7].”
