Adding to an already imposing broodmare band at Summer Wind Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky, Laura Jane Lyon went to $2.2 million for Tapicat (6, Tapit–Zealous Cat, by Storm Cat), making for the seventh transaction in excess of $1 million during the opening day of bidding. Purchased by Besilu Stables for $725,000 at this auction house's September Sale in 2011, Tapicat (hip 85) became a TDN Rising Star in early 2013 and went on to win the GIII Florida Oaks while under the care of trainer Bill Mott. Retired in 2015, she produced a colt by Medaglia d'Oro for her first foal earlier this and was offered in foal to Pioneerof the Nile. The resulting foal will be bred similarly to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Tapicat was consigned by Three Chimneys Farm and hails from the female family of Grade I winners Pohave (Holy Bull) and Cat Thief (Storm Cat). Summer Wind was the successful bidder on Whatdreamsrmadeof (Graeme Hall), the dam of MGISW Curalina (Curlin), Monday at Fasig-Tipton.
