Delaware Park Raises $12K for Alex's Lemonade Stand

Following a month-long fundraising effort, Delaware Park presented a check in the amount of $12,000 to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), designated as the charity of the month for June. Jay Scott, the father of Alex Scott, accepted the check on behalf of the foundation, which supports funding research to find a cure for childhood cancer, an area which remains underfunded, according to ALSF. Storms Cancel Delaware Park Racing Thursday

Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms in the Wilmington area caused officials to cancel the remainder of the races at Delaware Park Thursday. Racing was abandoned following the fifth of nine scheduled races at the track. Live racing is scheduled to resume at Delaware Park Friday.

The live racing card at Delaware Park will be canceled Friday due to expected extreme heat conditions in the area, the track said Thursday. In a statement, the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission said, "Acting upon the recommendation of the DTRC, veterinarians and stewards, Delaware Park has cancelled the live racing card scheduled for Friday, July 25, due to the excessive heat index forecasted by the National Weather Service to be above 105 for the region." Heat Forces More Racing Cancellations at Parx, Delaware, Finger Lakes

Parx, which announced last week it was canceling racing Monday and Tuesday due to excessive heat, has now also abandoned its slate of live races Wednesday. Finger Lakes also wound up canceling their Tuesday card after initially trying to race, citing the excessive heat index in the area. With a heat wave gripping much of the country, Delaware Park has also been forced to cancel its Wednesday card. Earlier in the week, Finger Lakes and Prairie Meadows each canceled their live racing cards Monday due to weather.

Heat Forces Delaware Park To Shift Next Week's Schedule To Thursday-Saturday

Due to the extreme heat index forecasted for next week, live racing has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 26 through Saturday, June 28 at Delaware Park, the track said via a press release on Thursday. There will be no racing on Wednesday, June 25. Entries taken tomorrow, will be for the card rescheduled to Friday, June 27. Live racing is still planned for Saturday, June 21 with first race post time set for 12:35 p.m. ET.

That the figures recently released by the Jockey Club from its Equine Injury Database showed another significant drop in the number of fatalities was good news, but hardly surprising news.
