Letter To The Editor: Gulfstream, Santa Anita, And Decoupling

Pegasus Day at Gulfstream is one of my most enjoyable days at the races. The melding of great entertainment, world-class horses, and a great vibe shows racing at its best. It is expensive to put on and showcases our sport in the highest light. It is also the most ironic considering the recent announcement regarding the closing of Gulfstream and seeking development absent horse racing. I was perplexed to listen to Belinda Stronach on Pegasus Day speak of the non-compatibility of racing in an urban environment, despite all of the...

The chart notated that Rogue Son was a trainer scratch. Kimura had been booked on eight mounts Sunday, including the GIII Las Cienegas Stakes...

Los Angeles Wildfires: For Some Racetrackers, Recovery's A Long Road

It's nearing two weeks since the fires that have torn across Los Angeles first erupted. Still burning, they're already among the worst in state history. The two biggest fires were the Palisades Fire, on the west side of the city, and the Eaton Fire focused on the northeastern suburb of Altadena, a community in the San Gabriel Mountain foothills where many of Santa Anita's racetrack community live. Together, they have burned through some 38,000 acres. There have so far been 27 confirmed fatalities. AccuWeather estimates the financial toll to be between $250 billion...

Los Angeles Wildfires: As Threats To Santa Anita Recede, Reality Bites

Santa Anita opened its track Thursday morning to limited training--just joggers and gallopers for most of the morning. For the Santa Anita backstretch community, it was a slice of normality as the extent of the damage caused by the wildfires that have ripped across Los Angeles this week began to set in. "I've lived there half my life, almost. My daughter was born there. It's where she grew up. All of our memories together. I was just telling her, 'all of your medals and trophies for all the years you...
