Napoleon Solo in Good Form Post Preakness, Will Target Haskell

In the morning after his GI Preakness Stakes triumph, Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map) was in good form, according to trainer Chad Summers, and will target the GI Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park as his next start. "He's good today," Summers told the TDN. "He's been very playful. I came back last night at about midnight just to have a quiet moment with him after all the hoopla. He ate all his food, so I gave him another scoop and he ate all that right away." "He's full of spunk and...

Former Pletcher Assistant Amelia Green is Thriving, Seeks First Graded Win in Black-Eyed Susan

Having spent the winter in New York and without a major star in her barn, trainer Amelia Green hasn't gotten much attention this spring. But that's no fault of her own. Through Tuesday, the former assistant to Todd Pletcher had won 18 races on the year, good for a 25-percent win rate. It took her the complete calendar year in 2025 to win the same amount, 18 races. "I think a lot of this has to do with the lessons I've learned when it comes to running horses where they...

The New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division has ruled against trainer Todd Pletcher in his appeal of a 10-day suspension and $1,000 fine he received after Forte (Violence) tested positive for Meloxicam in the 2022 GI Hopeful Stakes. A separate matter, regarding whether or not Forte should be disqualified, is still pending. It was not immediately clear whether or not Pletcher would have to begin serving his suspension. In May of 2023, it was announced that Forte had tested positive for what is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication. Pletcher issued...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After Jacob West signed the ticket on Renegade (Into Mischief) for $975,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling sale, breeders Robert and Lawana Low weren't quite ready to say goodbye. "We made the decision, reluctantly, to put him through the sale, and by the time the hammer dropped, I was quizzing Jacob," Robert Low said. "'Can we buy half of this horse back?' And Mike was kind enough to do it." Mike, as you've probably figured out by now, is prominent and outspoken owner Mike Repole. West...

Week in Review: A Derby Fave From the Rail Will Have to Outrun 70 Years of History

The annual GI Kentucky Derby post-position draw isn't so much about landing a favorable gate assignment as avoiding a poor one. The task for the fast-closing Renegade got quite a bit tougher on Saturday when the flashy son of Into Mischief drew the historically unrewarding inside post for the May 2 Derby. Much of the pre-race speculation will focus on whether or not Renegade can overcome a starting stall that has not yielded a Derby winner since 1986, when the 17-1 Ferdinand got bumped to the back, rallied wide, then...
