Taris Heads West After Multi-Million Dollar Purchase
Supplementary entry Taris (Flatter) (hip 199) ensured the sale closed on a high note when selling to trainer Simon Callaghan for $2.35 million as the second-to-last horse through the ring. The 3-year-old filly has run just five times, but she underscored her talent when running away with the GII Raven Run S. at Keeneland by nine lengths Oct. 18 for Commonwealth New Era Racing and trainer Todd Beattie. Taris is out of the Theatrical (Ire) mare Comedy, and her second dam is GIII Distaff Turf Mile heroine Don’t Be Silly (Lord At War {Arg}). She is from the extended family of War Front. She was purchased by her former owners for $90,000 as a Keeneland September yearling.
“She’s been bought for an existing client,” O’Callaghan said. “We thought she was a standout physically, as well as her race record, so we’ll bring her back to California and see how she does. If all goes well, a target could be the [GI] La Brea S.”
